Prelude: Lyrics and thoughts
Originally this was intended to be a progressive metal project. I think when I asked Carl to compose an acoustic opener, the handwriting was on the wall that this was not going to be as metal as I heard it in my head. -MK
Its an instrumental, so guess what, no lyrics. But it is a really cool song.
When Mike told me he wanted the album to start with a classical guitar piece, I was actually pretty juiced. The Prelude went through about a dozen different versions before we settled on the one you(‘ll) hear. The only big change is that I didn’t feel it had as much bite when I played it on classical guitar–which has nylon strings and a far, far mellower sound than its steel-strung cousin. -CG
